Sofia Rubina

TRAXSOURCE NUMBER 1! Her release on MN2S «Make Me Beautiful» – a slice of sunshine during a dreary winter!
Estonian-native Sofa Rubina was introduced as a vocalist with her band in 2000. The group consisting of Estonian, and Lithuanian band members toured Europe and Russia and opened for acts like Incognito, Roy Ayers, Marcus Miller and other well known artists. During that time Sofia recorded on Umblu Record Label, releasing her first LP “My Sun” in 2007. In 2008 Sofia along with Rulers of the Deep hit the charts with the award winning single “Planet Drum”. The video was aired on MTV Europe and MTV Baltic. The LP was successful throughout Europe, but it took some adventurous DJ’s to import the single to a new radio audience abroad. Sofia collaborated with DJ Andy Ward in the summer of 2009 with the upbeat and jazzy track “Streets of the Sun”. The song was an immediate hit on the dance floors in the U.K. and created a timeless summer dance classic.
Throughout the next four years, Sofia would participate in several vocal competitions in Estonia, Finland and Latvia. She secured a first place win at the Lady Summertime International Jazz Competition in Finland as well becoming a finalist in the Sony Jazz Stage competitions.
Sofia enjoys performing different styles of music, but when you sit down and listen to the artist you will know that vocally her talents are jazzy, playful, soulful and funky. “Parts of my performances are improvisations. I enjoy being playful on the stage and I always want to surprise the audience”, says Sofia.
Sofia continues performing, making stops in Russia, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Spain and the U.S. She is currently studying at the Berklee Music College in Boston, Massachusetts where she has performed with jazz great Jack Dejohnette and continues to further her studies as a musician and performer.
