In 1992 events started that changed everything. Those were the first hip-hop parties, which were called RAP parties at that time. Despite the name of the event, the essence of it was rough – Ice Cube, Ice T, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Boo Yaa Tribe, Tupac, LL Cool J, Cypress Hill, House Of Pain, etc.

DJ Bad J was in the middle of those events from the very beginning. These parties were the springboard for DJ Bad J as the promoter and one of the first Estonian DJ-s playing only hip-hop and R’n’B. In spite of primitive technical equipment, poor access to and availability of music, youth and inexperience of the promoters, these parties were extremely popular and became famous all over Estonia. The first hip-hop parties in Pärnu were held in the only club for alternative music – Roheline Salong, followed by Taku Klubi and bigger night clubs in Pärnu: Mai Cultural Center, Sunset Club, Night Club Mirage, Night Club UP, Club Tallinn, etc.

A ’group of activists’ and hip-hop fans gathered under the name of Crew Da Raba Mob, a member of which was also DJ Bad J. As a result of those events, Pärnu soon became the hip?hop capital of Estonia. Bigger hip?hop events were organized under the notorious and scandal name “COP KILLA”, which among other things, caught the attention of the police. The promoters of those events had to explain their intentions and the message of black music as such in a local newspaper and police station.

From there on DJ Bad J has followed a logical path – he started to host a hip?hop and R’n’B shows called ’BLACK MONDAY’ and ’HIPHOPERA’ in Radio Pärnu and quite soon the first Estonian weekly underground hip?hop and R’n’B party “GROOVEROOM” was born in Night Club UP. After a while, urban music found its way to bigger night clubs in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, where DJ Bad J was again the promoter and DJ of several innovative and groundbreaking urban parties. For years DJ Bad J was the resident DJ of many popular series of club events, including “CAFÉ DE LA SOUL” at Club Hollywood and legendary “VIBE”, which became the most important alternative music festival in Estonia, visited by numerous world famous artistes.

In parallel with the above-mentioned events, in 2000 DJ Bad J and DJ P Julm started a series of parties named «SOULSHAKER», the essence of which was formed by a mixture of different styles: hip-hop, R’n'B, up-tempo soul and vocal house. “SOULSHAKER” became the most widespread series of parties, which regularly took place in 3 major cities of Estonia:  Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu.

Year 2004 saw the birth of “BAD JAM”, which is a series of hip-hop and R’n’B parties created and promoted by DJ Bad J. After its set up, “BAD JAM” has become the most important and popular urban music event in Estonia. Every month BAD JAM is bringing the best hip-hop and R’n’B music flavors into the major Estonian cities and their best night clubs: Hollywood (Tallinn), Illusion (Tartu), Bravo (Pärnu), Diva (Kuressaare). In addition to DJ Bad J, as the resident DJ and highly rated club event promoter, the most important DJ-s of Estonian urban music scene bring their music vibe to “BAD JAM”, including DJ Trigga, Critical, MK, Quest, MVP, Slam, Mista, etc. Alongside with DJ Bad J, internationally known DJ-s from neighboring countries (incl. Finland, Sweden, Latvia), from Europe (incl. England, France, etc.) and other countries all over the world (incl. Tanzania) are present at the stage of this urban music event. Together with the most upfront choice of hip-hop and R’n’B dance music, the atmosphere of “BAD JAM” is enriched by excellent sound, unique club decorations, high-quality audio video fusion and of course, the best party people in town.

Another important R’n’B event called “CANDY SHOP” takes place in Club Hollywood every month. “CANDY SHOP” has been created and promoted by DJ Bad J, having the real urban music lovers in mind. In the menu of «CANDY SHOP» 100% pure gold can be found, meaning Soulful House, R’n'B (newschool & oldschool), Soul and Funk, brought to the audience by the best urban music DJ-s in Estonia.

DJ Bad J has also been a resident DJ at Club Privè in Tallinn for many years, performing at a weekly urban music event called “CREAM”. For a long time DJ Bad J has been responsible for the DJ lineup at “CREAM”.

Long involvement in club-business has given DJ Bad J the opportunity to perform in many neighboring countries, including Russia, Latvia, Finland, etc. Numerous visits to urban clubs across the world have given DJ Bad J a lot of inspiration for organizing club events, shaped his musical taste and developed his DJ skills. Over the time, DJ Bad J has performed together with well-known DJ-s like Will (Fra) Skinz (UK), Lonyo (UK), Critikal (Est), Quest (Est), Trigga (Est), MK (Est), Kiddo (UK), Rahim (Tanzania), Defkut (Fin, Swe, Fra), K-Gee (UK), Keith Lawrence (UK), P Draconian (Rulers Of The Deep, Est), Widenski (Macadam Music, Est) K2 (Fin), Taste (Fin), Mista (Est), etc.

In 2005, DJ Bad J achieved two very important things related to the Estonian R’n'B scene. First, together with DJ MK he started an urban music show «URBANISM» on Estonia’s national radio station “Radio 2”. Secondly, he established the first 100% urban oriented radio station «U-POP» (today called «SPIN FM”).

In addition to the other activities, on weekdays DJ Bad J is involved in studio work. He is managing the production department of the biggest radio group in Estonia “Trio LSL”, which belongs to an international media group Communicorp Group Ltd.

Over the time the musical taste of DJ Bad J has moved towards more melodic Soul and R’n’B. The formation of his musical taste has also been influenced by his ability to play bass guitar, which skills he has been developing from 1989 onwards. The favorites of DJ Bad J through the ages have been: A Tribe Called Quest, 2Pac, Gangstarr, Keith Sweat, MC Solar, R Kelly, Michael Jackson, Maxwell, Mary J. Blige, Ryen Leslie, Neptunes, etc.

As a result of DJ Bad J’s commitment to the club-business, he is one of the most famous and demanded DJ-s in Estonian urban music scene. His inspiring attitude, great DJ skills and excellent choice of music, guarantee a positive vibe for every party.
